Microsoft 365 Family: 2TB shared instead of 1TB each

Microsoft 365 Family and Premium now come with 2TB of OneDrive storage shared by up to six people, instead of 1TB for each person. The Family plan's price stays $13 a month.

What it means for you

A family that uses more than 2TB together will run out of space after the switch, even though each person had 1TB before.

What to do

Check how much OneDrive space your family uses together. Over 2TB? Plan a clean-up or extra storage before your first renewal after 2 May 2027, and keep in mind that upgrading to Premium switches you right away.

The details

New and upgraded subscriptions have the shared 2TB since 8 October. Existing plans switch when they renew on or after 2 May 2027; upgrading earlier, for example from Family to Premium, switches right away. Extra storage can be added, up to 10TB in total.

Where and when: New plans since 8 October; existing plans at renewal from 2 May 2027
