ChatGPT lets you lock private chats behind a PIN
OpenAI is rolling out Locked Chats: a locked conversation moves out of your chat history, pinned chats and search into a separate section that opens only with a four-digit PIN, or Face ID, Touch ID or your phone's unlock.
What it means for you
If other people use your phone or computer, you can keep some ChatGPT conversations out of sight. It hides chats; it doesn't make them more secret from OpenAI.
What to do
Open a chat's menu and choose Lock chat; if it isn't there yet, it hasn't reached your account. Pick a PIN you won't forget. Locking doesn't cancel links you already shared, so delete those separately.
The details
It's on Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, on the web, the iPhone and Android apps and the Mac and Windows apps. Temporary, archived and group chats can't be locked. It isn't end-to-end encryption, and it doesn't change how long OpenAI keeps your data. If you reset a forgotten PIN, all locked chats, their files and memories are deleted for good.
