iOS 27: Apple Intelligence takes up to 16 GB, and a workaround

People who updated to iOS 27 report that Apple Intelligence uses about 9 to 16 GB of iPhone storage, GSMArena writes. That includes phones in regions where the features aren't available, like the EU.

What it means for you

If your iPhone ran out of space after iOS 27, Apple Intelligence may be the reason, and switching it off alone won't fix it.

What to do

If you don't use Apple Intelligence, change Siri's language to Canadian, Irish, South African or New Zealand English and restart the phone. Changing your Apple Account's region isn't recommended: it can mean cancelling subscriptions.

The details

Turning off Apple Intelligence or Siri doesn't give the space back. A workaround shared by Reddit users and tested by GSMArena: set Siri to an English variant that Apple Intelligence doesn't support (Canadian, Irish, South African or New Zealand English), then restart; the space used drops to about 100 MB. Apple Intelligence and the new Siri features then stop working, because they need US or UK English.
