A hidden text message can drop calls on Android phones
A bug in Android lets one specially made text message, which never shows in your inbox, crash the phone's calling service and cut off calls, including emergency calls.
What it means for you
Phones without recent security updates could have calls cut off by a message you never see. Phones that no longer get updates may stay exposed.
What to do
Install the latest security update on your phone (in Settings, look for System or Software update), and check again in November.
The details
Security researcher Mark Blaszczyk showed it on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones; the code goes back to Android 12 (CVE-2026-58882, rated critical). He says the fix is in October's security updates for Android 14 to 17, and it's expected in Google's November security bulletin.
