Windows 11 update aims to run better on PCs with 8 GB of RAM
A new Windows 11 update rolling out worldwide is meant to make PCs with 8 GB of memory up to 20% more responsive and up to 40% faster at multitasking, according to Microsoft.
What it means for you
If your laptop has only 8 GB of RAM, it should feel quicker when you switch between apps and tabs.
What to do
Open Settings > Windows Update and install the latest update.
The details
Windows can keep up to 2 GB more data in memory, so returning to an open app or tab doesn't reload it. Background work like search indexing scales down while you use the PC, and on low-memory PCs Widgets only load when opened. Teams, Office, Edge and Outlook use less memory, and apps like WhatsApp also use the new optimizations.
